story discusses the construction of a mega development in south Lake county
that has been under consideration on and off since the 1980’s. It would bring added tax revenue and increase
the population of Minneola twice fold. The
problem lies in the possible disruption and encroachment of added traffic to
the popular cycling tourism industry the area is known for. They would no longer enjoy the low traffic and
relative safety of a town with only 10,000 residents while they ride Sugarloaf
Mountain. The cycling community is the
who of this problem as they will or may be directly impacted if the mega
developments are approved and built out.
2. Title: Teen typewriter poet says he'll fight street
ban in Winter Park
Description: A UCF
college student and local Winter Park High School graduate is now unable to
create poems for the public via typewriter in Park Avenue because of an
ordinance enacted on Dec. 14, 2015 banning street performers. The problem lies with the requirement to have
a permit to perform, if you will, in that area, however the permit costs $150
daily. Street performers are able to
perform but across the street in Central Park.
The person who has the problem is the street performer who was able to
do so in this area prior to Dec. 14, 2015, but now has to pay $150 a day if
they want to perform in this area or risk getting a fine.
3. Title: Seminole residents push for a new cellphone
tower
Description: Residents
in southwest Seminole county are pleading with the country board to approve the
construction of a cell phone tower in their area. The problem is that cell phone coverage is
nearly non-existent in their residential area and they would be better served
if one was built nearby. The persons who
have the problem are the residents of the communities near Wekiwa Springs State
Park.
4. Title: Garbage, yard waste woes still evident,
street by street - County says it's improving service, though
Description: At the
start of the year, Orange County changed their system of garbage collection to
trucks utilizing automated arms that reach out and dump the standard sized
containers into the truck’s collection bin.
This saves on labor and is said to be more efficient. However, the county has experienced their
fair share of growing pains as truck crews have missed entire communities, not
picked up trash for days and not offering an improvement over the previous
method which this replacement system promised.
The persons experiencing the problem are the homeowner who have a
growing stash of garbage as the containers can only hold so much and garbage
collection is only scheduled for once a week pickup, as well as the county
managers in charge of implementing the new garbage collection system and the
garbage truck crews who have to adjust and ensure they complete their pickup
schedules as agreed upon.

Hey Ruben, I enjoyed reading your post because you found some articles that were pretty interesting. I personally was interested in the cycling story. To a certain extent, I can relate to the cyclists that are angry about the potential traffic that will arise. Whenever I am riding my bike on a busy street I always feel really nervous so I tend to stay on the sidewalk. Similar to some of your articles, I also found ones relating to lawsuits and battles in court. Your "opportunities" did contrast mine in that my articles were mainly about businesses while yours involves individuals or groups of people. I found your articles very interesting because they were very focused and B2C oriented. Mine were more broad and most of them had to do with current problems due to the extreme weather conditions that we have experienced in the past weeks. I believe you have some great opportunities in those articles, you could develop many ideas to resolve those issues. I especially liked the first article that talked about the cycling industry in Minneola and how is going to be affected if they decide to approve the mega development. This is a two-way street because you could either choose to take part on the mega development and may be offer construction services, or you could pick sides with the cycling industry and work on a solution, a product, or a new cycling trail that would encourage the cycling community to keep practicing this sport. The articles you posted about were very interesting to me. Through your articles it shows me that there are very many different local opportunities that are out there for you to take advantage of. It was interesting to me looking up local opportunities because it allowed me to open up and try to find new opportunities and I could take advantage of in the community. I never realized how many things I could do that would make a big difference in my community.
